Rao Ali Shaan Khan, an Associate Broker with Charles Rutenberg Realty since 2016, brings his passionate dedication and professional expertise to assist New Yorkers with their real estate needs. With a focus on understanding and empathy, Shaan skillfully guides clients through the intricate process of buying or selling homes, making sure they feel supported, informed, and prepared at every step of their journey.
In 2023 Shaan was honored as Salesperson of the Year by the Long Island Board of Realtors® (LIBOR), the 4th largest local Realtor board in the United States. His performance has also been recognized at Charles Rutenberg Realty as a Top Performer, including Top Performer Gold status in 2022.
Shaan believes that a commitment to professional development is essential to providing the highest level of service to consumers. As such, Shaan has earned
several of the real estate industry's highest professional designations and certifications, including Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR), Seller Representative Specialist (SRS), Pricing Strategy Advisor (PSA), At Home with Diversity (AHWD), Real Estate Negotiation Expert (RENE), Short Sales and Foreclosure Resource (SFR), Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI), Commercial/Investment Real Estate Certification (CIRE), e-PRO and NAR's Commitment to Excellent (C2X).
Shaan is deeply committed to advocating for the needs of his clients as well as fostering an accessible and transparent housing system for everyone.
As the Secretary/Treasurer for the Long Island Board of Realtors® and a board member since 2020, Shaan has been a strong voice for high ethical and professional standards within the real estate industry. Notably, as the Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, Shaan led the development of the 2022 - 2024 Strategic Plan for the Association, which placed a greater emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the organization’s goals. Shaan is also a past chair of the Bylaws and DEI committees.
Shaan’s efforts extend to the state and national levels, where he serves as a Director for the New York State Association of Realtors (NYSAR) and the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
In 2021 he was recognized by Long Island Business News (LIBN) with its Diversity in Business Award, which highlights the outstanding achievements of professionals who actively support the growth of diversity and equality in our community. LIBN highlighted Shaan’s work in helping to establish the first-ever Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee for the Long Island Board of Realtors in 2020.
A Licensed Real Estate Instructor, Shaan educates aspiring professionals by sharing expertise, industry insights, and practical training while encouraging the highest ethical and professional standards.
Before his real estate career, Shaan worked for Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer for seven years. As his Director of Community Affairs and Constituent Services, Shaan spearheaded efforts to reform and empower Manhattan’s twelve community boards, which resulted in increased education and professional training for members as well as a dramatic increase in the appointment of historically under-represented communities to the boards.
In addition to his work on community-based planning and land use issues in Manhattan, Shaan is especially proud to have authored Led Astray. This 2013 investigative report shed light on systemic abuses within New York City’s Animal Shelter system.
Shaan is a graduate of New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, holding a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Marketing and a Minor in Psychology.
